For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
~Ephesians 2:10
What do you want to be when you grow up? Where do you want to go to school? What kind of job are you aiming for post-graduation? Who do you want to marry? How are you going to raise your kids? Where are you going to live?
Life is full of decisions. It’s never-ending really. We are constantly deciding something, even if it’s as simple as what to eat for breakfast.
Right now I’m facing the decision of how to write out the thoughts in my head, and you’re deciding if you’re going to read on.
The world offers this immense pressure to always be right. Especially if you’re a Christian. Somehow, because we represent Christ, we forget the grace factor. This pressure leaves too many of us paralyzed to make decisions.
If God really created us for good works, and these good works were created for us before the beginning of the world, how do we know if we’re actually walking in those good works?
God’s word says in Psalm 119:105 that His Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Literally. Or as literally as you can get without actually shining a light on every footstep before you take it.
His Word.
By knowing God through knowing His word, we really can be confident we are walking in the good works He has created for us.
What if we step off that “lighted path?”
There’s a concept that the Old Testament translators often translate as “loving kindness.” The Hebrew word there is “hesed.” It’s a form of love that is so permanent that we really cannot comprehend it. It’s such a deep, rich love that goes beyond the “mama bear” type of love we have for our kids, and is filled with an amazing grace and mercy.
God loves you so strongly and holds you so tightly that in Him, you can’t stray too far. Yes, we still have free will and can step off that path at any moment, but He also promises us that we are His and nothing can undo that.
If you know Jesus as your Savior, then step forward, trusting that the work He has set before you is the work He created intentionally just for you.
